And even - worse luck - est!
I've studied with passionate resolution,
I've learned, alas! from top to bottom:
And stand here now,
World's Worst Physicist that I am,
Much wiser than I was before.
I am called Master, Doctor even:
For thirty years, up and down and back and forth,
I've led my students by the nose -
And I see there's something we can know!
And that's what eats my heart out.
Of course, I'm cleverer than all these puppies on sci.physics,
These Doctors, Masters, and the rest.
I'm tortured neither by doubts nor scruples,
I'm not afraid of Hell or the Devil-
And because of it, all money is torn from me.
I don't fool myself any longer
That the Mac Arthur Foundation will make me rich
Even though I have something to teach
To make men smarter, justify The Faith;
So, I've neither goods, nor gold,
Nor this world's honor, nor its glory-
Not even a hippie would go on living this way!
So I have turned instead to the Internet:
The speech and power of HTML
Can teach me, surely, many secrets-
And I'll no longer, sweating bitterly,
Keep casting pearls before swine!
I'll learn what holds the World Wide Web together
There at its inmost core:
See the seeds of things, the power,
And bargain only in words no more!
