Literary Evenings with James Norwood Pratt
Norwood is a handsome Southern gentleman "of culture rare", a wonderful natural performer with a voice like Garrison Kieler. He is one of the few remaining North Beach Magi (Gregory Corso now is back in Greenwich Village) whose beautifully appointed tiny quarters is filled to the brim with exquisite art and books. Norwood lives and breathes the classics, art and poetry. We met again tonight, after many years, by synchronicity as I walked by an Indian restaurant and saw him sitting in the window . And soon you will meet him too in sound and image as well as text as he weaves his Catholic mystic magic and awakens the musical Gods within. Tonight he spoke of many things including Simone Weil, Isaiah Berlin, and recreated the mad Ezra Pound feverishly writing glorious poetry before his almost execution by the American Army in Rome at the end of WWII. He was saved by T.S. Eliot, Ernest Hemingway and other literati. Norwood is the real author of In Praise of Older Women and several popular books on wine and tea.
